Golden Bats is a man, a drum machine and a whole lot of slow, menacing riffs. Having spent years playing frenetic punk and hardcore in Brisbane punk institutions Dick Nasty and Teargas, Geordie Stafford began Golden Bats as a way of exploring gear and ideas that weren’t getting a run in his other projects. Shortly after putting out his first release under the Golden Bats name, Stafford packed his bags and headed north, settling in the north Queensland city of Townsville (via a brief stint in Indonesia). With regular gigging no longer an option, Golden Bats became a fleshed-out studio project, with tracks regularly drip-fed onto the internet and split 7” records with bands around the world.
Residual Dread is 6 tracks of hypnotic doom metal, mixing fuzzed-out riffs with piano, harmonium and Stafford’s anguished howls. Recorded by Geordie Stafford and mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door Mastering, it is the first full-length Golden Bats release.
Residual Dread is out now via Domestic La La Records.
